Happy Summer Solstice!

For me, it’s my favorite time of year - everything is green and growing and here in the Pacific NW, its usually stays a comfortable temperature while the sun is shining.

You might notice that the header is Summer…instead of June…I’ve decided to adjust my newsletter schedule to be once a quarter, focusing on the change of seasons. I’m slowing down my business a bit and using my time to take advantage of life adventures while the body (and mind!) are cooperating.

The Southern Man and I just returned from a week in the Alaskan wilderness. Neither of us had been to Alaskan before, and though we didn’t see all of the state, we saw glaciers, whales and birds a plenty and no shortage of magnificent trees.

Before we departed, I finished up a collage composition series I’ve been working on - “Everyday Women”

A major theme that has flowed through my art for years looks at the role of women in our society…not anything hitting you over the head…but more of a subtle story. Using vintage black and white photos as my inspiration, I pieced together 7 different stories. As is the case, I don’t know who these woman are, but I invent a story…adding in ephemera and found objects until a unique composition is created. And I have added a few new Scrap Fabric Banners to the shop too…that stash of scraps never seems to diminish!

Closing with another photo taken in the Tongass National Forest…so fresh, bright, ready to bloom…hoping that’s how you’re moving into summer…or whatever season you are enjoying at the moment.
